A stretch of the Bedford Highway at the Windsor Street Exchange will be inaccessible from 10 p.m. on Saturday until 7 a.m. on Sunday.
An announcement from the Halifax Regional Municipality said “this is to facilitate the safe removal of an overhead sign structure that crosses the full width of Bedford Highway. The removal of this sign will enable the upcoming construction of a detour road that will support future phases of the Windsor Street Exchange project.”
Although the stretch of the Bedford Highway from Windsor Street to the Joseph Howe Drive ramp will be closed for those hours, the announcement said “marked detours will be in place. Drivers should expect delays and are asked to use alternative routes where possible. Access to Bedford Highway from the MacKay Bridge and Highway 111 will not be impacted by this work.”
Updates for bus riders will be available on the Halifax Transit website.
The Windsor Street Exchange Project is a $180-million infrastructure upgrade at one of the city’s most congested traffic points.
“The project includes major roadway changes, transit priority measures, new infrastructure for people walking, rolling and cycling, and co-ordinated upgrades to water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure delivered in partnership with Halifax Water,” an HRM news release states.
“Traffic modelling indicates the project will significantly improve how traffic moves through the area, reducing congestion and making travel times more reliable.”
