The UCLA Bruins remained the Big Ten’s only undefeated team with a 17-7 Week 7 home win over Wisconsin that made Bob Chesney’s team bowl eligible in his first year as a Big Ten head coach. Fans wondered whether or not UCLA is the new Indiana as they moved to 6-0 on the season.
Chesney spoke to NBC Sports after the game, during which he shared a compliment on his backup QB Ty Dieffenbach, who filled in for the injured Nico Iamaleava.
“I think a lot like our team, he’s got resolve, he sticks together, he has confidence in himself and he’s excited to go make plays, not nervous to make mistakes, and that’s what I was very pleased with today.”

Dieffenbach’s confidence helped him pass for 264 yards with former Michigan receiver Semaj Morgan leading the Bruins in receiving with five catches for 84 yards. Dieffenbach threw an interception, but the Bruins’ athletic defense picked him up, holding Badgers transfer QB Colton Joseph to 66 yards passing on the night.
Weeks 7 and 8 will bring seemingly easier home tests against Michigan State and Nevada at the Rose Bowl, but Chesney and his team know they are now the hunted after spending most of this season as the hunter. Chesney talked before the game about building a title contender, and he’s already done just that in his first season with the Bruins program. UCLA will be on upset alert against the Spartans, but for now, it’s time to enjoy the fruits of their labor as they cut an upstart Badgers team down to size in front of an excited home crowd.
