The Sunday, 25 October episode of Carte Blanche delves into the growing debate over elephant overpopulation, as expanding herds place increasing pressure on the environment and intensify human-wildlife conflict.
With elephant populations capable of doubling every 10 to 15 years, the programme examines whether culling should return as a wildlife management measure to protect habitats and maintain healthy herds.
The investigation explores the challenges facing areas with around 2 000 elephants, where limited space and environmental damage have reignited a decades-old debate over how best to manage the animals while balancing conservation efforts with the needs of surrounding communities.
