The probation does not prevent the school from participating in sports or other programs, but serves as a warning that future violations could result in additional consequences.

The IHSA announced Friday that it had "placed Lincoln-Way East on probation for the remainder of the 2026-27 school year," concluding its investigation into two incidents involving the school.
One incident occurred during a football game against Homewood-Flossmoor High School. Video captured a group of Lincoln-Way students taunting Homewood-Flossmoor fans with monkey sounds and gestures.
Less than two weeks later, the students involved, who the school said were not members of the football team, voluntarily withdrew from Lincoln-Way East rather than face expulsion.
At a school board meeting Thursday, the district announced it had hired a consultant who works in racial bias training. However, some said additional action was needed.
"I demand a formal written apology addressed and delivered to the entire Homewood-Flossmoor High School student body," said Troy O'Quinn, a parent of Homewood-Flossmoor students, during public comment.
Lincoln-Way East was also forced to respond to a separate alleged racial incident during a cross-country meet. However, the IHSA said it was "unable to corroborate any malicious language directed at anyone involved in the meet."
In a statement, the district said it "appreciates the IHSA's thorough investigation of these incidents. The district remains committed to fostering greater cultural understanding among students and staff and ensuring our schools are safe, welcoming, and inclusive for all."
The IHSA said it would have no further comment while acknowledging that the two incidents could be the subject of future litigation.
