Aden – Residents in Aden, southern Yemen, reported hearing explosions near the city's airport on Friday evening, caused by Houthi missiles.
Minutes after the explosions, Houthi media outlets announced they had targeted a "command center for Saudi forces in Aden province."
An official and an air traffic controller reported that two projectiles landed at the airport. They told the German Press Agency (dpa) that an area within the airport housing a military unit allied with government forces had been struck.
These developments come a day after the Houthis targeted the presidential palace in Aden.
On Thursday, the Houthis launched a missile attack on the Maashiq presidential palace, which the government uses as its temporary headquarters in Aden. The attack killed five people and injured 16, according to a toll announced by the Minister of Health.
Yemeni Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani condemned the "cowardly attack" via the "X" platform, adding that the government "will not be intimidated by these attacks or deterred from continuing the Dawn of Yemen campaign until state institutions are restored, the coup is ended, and state authority is extended over all national territory."
A Yemeni government minister told AFP that al-Zindani was in the palace at the time of the bombing but was unharmed.
The minister, who requested anonymity, added that the Houthis targeted a command center for Yemeni government forces in the compound with three missiles and another center with two missiles.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree, via Telegram, claimed responsibility for "bombing the Saudi enemy's military operations headquarters in Aden."
The conflict in Yemen has displaced more than 200,000 people, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the vast majority since September 1st.
The IOM considers the pace of this humanitarian crisis alarming, given the lack of funding to respond to humanitarian needs.
