Bill Simmons is putting Brock Purdy in the same breath as Patrick Mahomes amid the San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s hot start to the 2026 NFL season.

Purdy has been playing in the NFL since 2022, going through his fifth season with the 49ers. He shines as one of the best quarterbacks in the league, often leading San Francisco to big playoff runs.

Simmons talked about Purdy during a new episode of The Ringer. He explained why he views Purdy in the same light as Mahomes, believing he is the MVP favorite this season.

“Clearly the MVP, top five QB I trust right now. Maybe top three, reaching Mahomes levels. Godd**n, Purdy’s good. He’s been the guy that jumped out the first five weeks from a consistency standpoint. Other people have had good games, but I think every game you watch, I haven’t seen him have a bad game yet. So if you’re a Niners fan, I think you’re starting to feel a little team of destiny-ish,” Simmons said.

“This is outrageous, like this Purdy thing where you get him with the last pick in the draft, and then it becomes this big conundrum of how much do you pay this guy? What’s his ceiling? The guy has gotten better every single year. He’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league. It’s not arguable anymore, and you hit the jackpot with that, so don’t have to worry about that.”
