The body of a 19-year-old youth from Assam was recovered from the Byrnihat River in Meghalaya’s Ri Bhoi district on Tuesday following a search operation by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) in coordination with Byrnihat Police.
The deceased, identified as Bishnu Ghosh, was a resident of Saraibahi village in Assam’s Morigaon district. He reportedly drowned in the river on Monday, prompting a search operation that continued until his body was recovered the following day.
According to police, no visible injury marks were found on the body, and the family expressed no suspicion of foul play. The incident was subsequently treated as a case of accidental drowning.
Following the completion of the necessary formalities, the body was handed over to the family for the last rites at their request, without conducting a post-mortem examination.
