President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on accelerating intensive fish farming projects and establishing energy-efficient greenhouses for lemon cultivation in Uzbekistan. The presentation outlined plans to expand fish production, establish fish farming complexes using existing land-reclamation wells and develop greenhouse facilities based on the experience of Balikchi district.
Uzbekistan has set a target of increasing annual fish production to 1mn tons through the expansion of intensive fish farming. The presentation examined plans to achieve this target by utilizing existing land-reclamation wells, using Balikchi district as a model. Plans include establishing intensive fish farming complexes around 24 wells in the district.
The presentation also covered plans to cultivate and process cold-water fish in Khanabad and implement fisheries projects using existing water bodies in Ulugnor.
The second part of the presentation focused on developing lemon cultivation using Balikchi district as a model. Plans include constructing energy-efficient greenhouses covering 100 hectares around nine mahallas in the district. The greenhouses will be offered to entrepreneurs as ready-to-use facilities.
The project will integrate lemon cultivation, sorting, processing, packaging, storage and sales into a single cooperative chain. The presentation emphasized the participation of unemployed individuals and low-income families in the greenhouse projects. According to preliminary estimates, 500 greenhouses will provide employment for at least 1,000 people from local families.
Additional income could also be generated by cultivating interim crops before the lemon saplings begin producing fruit. Based on the experience of Balikchi district, plans are in place to establish energy-efficient greenhouse complexes for low-income families and unemployed individuals across the region next year.
The complexes will cover a total area of 200 hectares and are expected to help increase the incomes of 2,000 families. Following the presentation, Mirziyoyev instructed relevant officials to provide financial support for the fish farming and lemon cultivation projects aimed at poverty reduction.
The president also directed officials to cover the costs of training residents in fish farming and lemon cultivation.
