Lane Kiffin shut down the notion of Mississippi State missing starting quarterback Kamario Taylor in the LSU Tigers’ 31-0 shutout win over the Bulldogs on Saturday night.
Kiffin is halfway through the first season of his stint with the Tigers. He looks to lead them to the College Football Playoffs, a high expectation that the program prides itself on.
They are off to a solid start, being 5-2 in their first seven games. They are also firmly inside the AP Top 25, getting a convincing ranked win over Mississippi State. Kiffin reflected on the victory after the game, expressing his lack of empathy for his opponent’s injuries given LSU’s situation in that department.

“I don’t have a lot of empathy for injuries and breaks,” Kiffin said, per reporter Alondra Villareal. “I mean, this (LSU) team, from Day 1, has gotten more bad breaks this season — you can go to fricking injunctions not being followed, and list the bad breaks throughout this year.”
“We had a lot of people sitting on our sideline and won 31-0,” Kiffin said, veering back to the Tigers’ injuries. “This team was built to be a championship team with significant players and starters that I still say can match up with anybody if we were healthy. And when those injuries happen, it’s hard.”
How Lane Kiffin, LSU performed against Mississippi State
Lane Kiffin and LSU continue to excel as one of the best squads in the nation, going up to 18th place in the latest AP Poll following their win over Mississippi State. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs fell out of the rankings.
The Tigers did most of their damage in the first half, leading 21-0 at halftime. Mississippi Stare couldn’t make any dents in the LSU defense without Kamario Taylor, paving the way for a comfortable win at home.
Sam Leavitt was LSU’s player of the game. He completed 31 out of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns.
The Tigers will look forward to their next matchup, being on the road. They gear up for a clash with the Auburn Tigers in Week 8 as kickoff commences on Oct. 24 at 12 p.m. ET.
