A retired police sergeant told a 12-member jury he found two spent cartridges in the yard of an unoccupied house in Silver Sands, Christ Church, as Dario Orlando Taitt’s murder trial continued in the No. 3 Supreme Court.
Taitt, of Silver Sands, Christ Church, is accused of murdering Jamal Clarke on May 2, 2023.
Retired officer Robin Philips told the court he went to the area after the station received a report at 8:10 am.
He told the court: “I went on duty to an unoccupied house at Silver Sands, Christ Church, which was opposite to Marcy’s Bar. This house had an enclosed guard wall with an opening to the front. The front yard has a large almond tree. I made an inspection of the yard and found two spent cartridges on the ground about ten feet from in front of the house. I also found a pair of black slippers with a Mercedes logo five feet [from] the house.”
The witness said he also found an empty rum bottle about two feet from the slippers and a red rake nearby.
He said a forensic scenes of crime officer arrived at the location around 11:20 a.m. He pointed out the cartridges, bottle and other areas to the officer and a photographer.
Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney, acting Senior State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce and State Counsel Kwame Ramsay are prosecuting the case, while defence counsel Martie Garnes represents Taitt.
