General Christopher Gwabin Musa, OFR (Rtd), born on 25th December, 1967 in Sokoto State and a proud son of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, is unarguably one of the most distinguished officers in the annals of Nigeria’s military history. He rose through the ranks on the strength of merit, intellect and uncommon valour to serve as Chief of Defence Staff, where he distinguished himself remarkably even in the face of a near-helpless security situation. His appointment in December 2025 as minister of defence was therefore a meticulous choice, predicated on his grandiose and sterling performance as CDS.
Armed with the best of military training and a Master’s Degree in Military Science and Leadership, General Musa is not defined by titles alone. He is a General whose command gives voice to truth, a military scientist and strategist whose ideas build systems, and a humanitarian whose compassion rebuilds lives.
C.G. Musa embodies rare empathy in an era when it is scarce. He is the catalyst who turns despair into hope, the steady hand that lifts the downtrodden, and the voice that reminds society of its conscience. His journey is one of relentless giving back to a world that often rewards noise over virtue, yet cannot ignore the light of genuine men like him.
Today, under his stewardship, our gallant Armed Forces are winning the war against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and other security threats confronting our nation. The welfare of the Nigerian Armed Forces has become his topmost priority, with salaries reviewed upward twice in this year alone. Under his watch, we have witnessed the expansion and establishment of new military Divisions, Brigades and Battalions across the country, including the 111 Battalion of the Nigerian Army at Egba-Ekaida in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, strategically located to tackle the protracted insecurity that has made the area porous for years. The Executive Chairman of Agatu LGA, Hon. Amb. Melvin James Ejeh, in his appreciation, stated: “We, the good people of Agatu Local Government Council, are immensely grateful.”
Many other Battalions like the one in Egba-Ekaida have been established across several local government areas in Nigeria – a clear testimony of purposeful leadership honed over the years in Gen. Musa’s illustrious military career.
The defence minister is making tremendous progress in ending insecurity and other security threats confronting Nigeria. His efforts unarguably deserve the support of all and sundry, not needless propaganda. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is pleased with his performance, and the recent encomiums and applause he has received on the international stage say it all.
His presentation at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) before world leaders was a masterstroke. Musa demonstrated unequivocally that he is the right man for the job.
Since assuming office, his scorecard has been so luminous that it has unsettled many who are envious of his leadership acumen and capacity to deliver. Unlike many who hide behind propaganda, General Musa is on course. Judging from where we were before and where we are today with regard to insecurity in Nigeria, one can safely and honestly say that the minister has done exceedingly well, as the negative security narrative has changed.
His achievements are not mere rhetoric. They are visible, verifiable and transformative. At the heart of his tenure is the strategic modernisation of Nigeria’s defence architecture – a reform anchored on professionalism, foresight and long-term planning. He has dismantled the age-long inter-service rivalry that once weakened our operations and has entrenched genuine joint operational synergy among the Army, Navy and Air Force, so that today our forces fight as one united front, sharing intelligence and executing missions in harmony.
Furthermore, General Musa understands the timeless military maxim that no army fights better than its welfare is catered for. He has therefore placed the morale of officers, soldiers and ratings at the very epicentre of his reforms, knowing that a motivated force is an effective force. This focus on human capital has restored confidence and boosted operational effectiveness across all theatres of operation.
In addition, he has fundamentally changed our doctrine of warfare, moving it from crude brute force to precision, intelligence-driven and technology-enabled operations, where intelligence does the tracking, technology does the finding, and strategy wins the war.
Perhaps most remarkable is his humane doctrine of warfare. He has issued a clear and unambiguous directive to all Service Chiefs to halt the loss of civilian lives and to make human rights compliance non-negotiable in all military operations, in line with global best practices. In a nation where collateral damage had become almost normalised, this directive has redefined professionalism. To institutionalise accountability, he has also introduced and implemented the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard within the Ministry of Defence, entrenching transparency and zero tolerance for corruption.
THE C.G. MUSA POLITICAL FACTOR
Gen. C.G. Musa’s entry into politics sends an excellent and scintillating message. His political vigour has left many thrilled. With his combustible political machinery capable of mobilising the unmobilised, and with his influence across political organisations in the entire North-west, C.G. Musa has shown that he possesses all the arsenal to deliver politically, not only in Northern Nigeria but also the country at large.
It is no longer news that his political acceptability can be safely judged by the overwhelming support of the entire Southern Kaduna people. A glance at the Friends of Gen. C.G. Musa movement reveals that it is more than a movement; it is a political storm – a crowd of determined people poised to deliver for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
It is visible evidence of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, now reinforced by the collaborative efforts of the defence minister. This collaboration is strengthened by President Tinubu’s federal punch: the approval of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, a 270-hectare educational and economic asset for Southern Kaduna, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan.
His administration also approved over ₦1.17 trillion for Light Rail and Road Projects for Kaduna announced on 30th April, 2026, including ₦100 billion for the Kaduna Light Rail and a 50km internal light rail valued at $868 million, plus the 122km Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road reconstruction and the commissioning of skill acquisition institutes, specialist hospitals and CNG buses.
The Renewed Vision in Northern Politics
With over 78 road projects covering 775 kilometres, most of which are link roads in rural areas, 21 have already been completed, including Magajiya-Amaru-Unguwan Liman and Madauchi-Madakiya-Kafanchan. The 23-kilometre Madauchi to Kafanchan road via Madakiya in Southern Kaduna has been completed and commissioned, while the Jaba-Kwoi road was flagged off as a lifeline for Southern Kaduna. 255 healthcare centres are being upgraded and 15 General Hospitals renovated, including Kachia General Hospital, in addition to 62 new secondary schools completed.
Political analysts agree that what makes the 2027 general elections particularly interesting in Kaduna and the entire North-west is the entry of Gen. C.G. Musa’s collaborative structure working hand-in-hand with President Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, with projects such as:
Command Schools Infrastructure: Musa has supported military-led community investments in humanitarian infrastructure (schools, clinics), particularly in conflict-affected areas. In Southern Kaduna, Giwa, and Kauru, military engineers are sinking boreholes, rehabilitating schools, and convening peace dialogues. The Infantry Model Command Day Secondary School has been commissioned as a beautiful edifice, with a proposed Command Science Secondary School in Kaduna with a modern ICT centre, alongside interventions in Command Secondary School Kaduna.
Influencing Young Men and Women into the Nigerian Army: The General’s non-kinetic approach includes vocational training for youth as an alternative to insurgent recruitment. He inaugurated the Musawah for Youth and Development Initiative, a socio-political platform established to promote youth participation, describing it as a movement designed to channel the energy of young people and women towards national development.
Financial Support for the Renewed Hope Agenda: The MUSAWAH Political Organogram has become a moving train accommodating all and serving as the logistic engine for the Renewed Hope Agenda, distributing food items to orphans and vulnerable persons and supporting stakeholder groups.
MUSAWAH and Friends of C.G. Musa Door-to-Door Machinery for a Peaceful Kaduna: Politics of issues and harmony is the harbinger of hope and development. In Gen. C.G. Musa’s political moving train, people find succour and accommodation; in his political arsenal, people find hope; in his political structure, people find solace; in his political kitchen, people find bread and tea; and in his political gathering, people find religious tolerance and harmony.
Development cannot thrive in the absence of peace. Hence, the need for peaceful coexistence amongst us is non-negotiable in Kaduna, in the entire Northern region and in Nigeria as a whole.
