As part of activities marking the anniversary, the association has proposed the establishment of a N12 million community Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and digital training centre to promote digital literacy and skills acquisition among residents.
According to the association, the proposed centre is designed to provide a conducive environment for digital literacy, computer training, online learning, entrepreneurship development and other ICT-enabled services.
Sulyman Alawuyan, chairman of the association’s Empowerment Committee, disclosed this in a statement, adding that the centre would serve as a multipurpose training facility capable of accommodating between 20 and 25 trainees at a time.
Alawuyan explained that the member representing Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Muktar Tolani Shagaya, would chair the occasion, while the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and National Chairman of the Forum of Commissioners for Education, Lawal Olorungbebe, would deliver the keynote address.
He said the programme would take place at No. 95, Koto Compound, Ode-Adana, Ilorin, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The empowerment committee chairman also disclosed that the association had proposed N4 million for a comprehensive community empowerment programme targeting 126 vulnerable persons and economically active members of the community.
He noted that the initiative was aimed at improving the socio-economic well-being of beneficiaries through financial assistance, educational support and the provision of vocational equipment.
According to him, the programme is designed to promote self-reliance, improve access to education, reduce poverty and stimulate local economic development.
“The beneficiaries will be selected through a transparent screening process involving the Community Development Association, community leaders and the Empowerment Committee,” he stated.
Alawuyan further disclosed that the association was seeking support from philanthropists, corporate organisations and individuals to sustain its annual empowerment initiatives targeted at less privileged members of the community.
He appealed to well-meaning individuals and organisations to support the association’s efforts to expand opportunities for digital skills development and economic empowerment among residents of Ode-Adana and its environs.
