Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has urged its staff to prioritise professionalism, discipline and excellence in service delivery to improve public confidence in government institutions.
The Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPS), Dahiru Mohammed Lawal, gave the charge during the commission’s celebration of the 2026 Customer Service Week in Abuja on Tuesday.
The event, themed: “Extra Mile,” focused on the need for public servants to go beyond their routine responsibilities to provide timely, efficient and quality services to Civil Servants, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and members of the public.
Lawal, who declared the event open, said effective service delivery remained essential to organisational success, urging staff to discharge their duties with integrity, passion and a strong sense of responsibility.
He stressed that service delivery should not be compromised, noting that the success of any organisation depended largely on the quality of services it provided.
The DOOPS also urged staff to remain committed to their responsibilities regardless of whether their efforts received immediate recognition, adding that every positive interaction contributed to building public trust and strengthening the Commission’s reputation.
Earlier, the Team Leader, Dr. Ben Olofu, said Customer Service Week provided an opportunity to recognise and appreciate employees who consistently exceeded expectations in serving customers.
Olofu explained that the theme, “Extra Mile,” highlighted the importance of anticipating customers’ needs, providing additional guidance, resolving complaints promptly and demonstrating willingness to go beyond routine duties.
He emphasised that excellent customer service was a collective responsibility that required teamwork, innovation and collaboration across departments.
According to him, every Unit and staff member has a role to play in resolving issues promptly and ensuring positive service experiences for stakeholders.
The Commission said small but consistent acts of excellence, including getting appointment, promotion and disciplinary decisions right the first time, could significantly improve service delivery and reinforce public confidence in the institution.
It urged staff to make going the extra mile a daily professional standard rather than an activity limited to the annual celebration.
The commission reiterated its commitment to promoting an efficient, effective and merit-driven Federal Civil Service.
