The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 21, in Abbotspoort, Martinique village, where the woman was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical services personnel.
According to Limpopo police, the sergeant, who was stationed at Witpoort police station, fled in a white Isuzu bakkie after the alleged shooting, prompting police to launch a manhunt.
Suspect’s body found under Morula tree
On Thursday, police said they information received at around 6.30am regarding a vehicle spotted along the road in Botshabelo Section, within the Tom Burke policing area.
“Police proceeded to the scene and found the suspect's white bakkie about 100 meters from his lifeless body which was found under a Morula tree with a gunshot wound to the head,” police said.
The sergeant’s state-issued firearm was found next to his body.
An inquest case has been opened at Tom Burke police station following the discovery of his body, while investigations into the murder of his wife continue.
Police said the motive for the incident remained unknown, but domestic violence could not be ruled out.
