(ANSA) - QUITO, 23 OTT - The Italian Ambassador to Ecuador, Giovanni Davoli, opened the celebrations for Italian Language Week Around the World (SLIM) at the Technological University of Ecuador (UTE). Specifically—according to a press release—the ambassador launched a painting contest involving approximately 150 children and young people from 14 local schools, who will be asked to depict their vision of the SLIM 2026 theme “Brilliant Language: Conceive, Design, Create with Italian.” Among other initiatives is the screening of the film “CampoSanto” by Italian director Sonia Pastecchia at the National Film Archive. Sonia Pastecchia herself is the guest of honor at Slim 2026 in Ecuador and will also hold a masterclass on cinema together with Italian production designer Roberto Frisone at the Casa d’Italia in Quito. Finally, a poetry contest is planned for children and young people aged 5 to 17, again focusing on the themes proposed for this edition. In his remarks, Ambassador Davoli emphasized that Italian remains an attractive language for foreigners, thanks to the appeal that Italian culture and lifestyle continue to hold around the world. In Ecuador in particular, an increasing number of schools and universities—with the support of the Embassy—are teaching Italian to young people.
