Chainlink Labs has expanded its push into Japan’s financial market through a partnership with Pacific Meta focused on tokenized assets, cross-chain transfers, and regulatory compliance.
According to Pacific Meta, which announced the partnership on October 16, the Tokyo-based company has selected Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as its preferred system for connecting blockchains. The agreement aims to help Japanese banks and businesses use blockchain technology within local regulatory requirements.
Chainlink Adds Cross-Chain Tools to Japan’s Tokenization Plans
CCIP allows digital assets and instructions to move between separate blockchain networks. For financial institutions, that means a tokenized asset issued on one network could be transferred or used on another without each institution building a separate connection.
Pacific Meta has added Chainlink’s Automated Compliance Engine (ACE) to its Partner Solutions service. The software supports checks and restrictions that financial firms must apply when issuing and managing tokenized assets. The partnership will cover digital identity systems and business development, although neither company announced a bank launch or deployment date.
The firms have worked together before. In 2023, they announced a Japan-focused agreement around Web3 adoption. Their latest arrangement puts greater emphasis on regulated finance rather than consumer-facing blockchain applications.
Andy Hung, Pacific Meta’s head of alliances, said Japanese institutions need “infrastructure they can trust and compliance frameworks that meet local regulatory expectations.” The companies plan to adapt Chainlink’s tools to Japanese business and legal requirements.
Japanese Banks Are Testing Blockchain Payments
The announcement comes as Japanese banks work on digital payment systems. On October 16, MUFG Bank confirmed the completion of a joint trial with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation and Mizuho Bank covering stablecoin issuance and cross-border payments. That project is separate from the Pacific Meta agreement.
Chainlink has been building connections with established finance groups outside Japan. Its work with SWIFT on blockchain connectivity has explored how banks can access blockchain networks while retaining existing payment systems. A previous Swift and UBS tokenized fund pilot tested blockchain-based subscriptions and redemptions.
A separate agreement with payments provider Bottomline aims to extend Chainlink-related blockchain services to banks.
These projects address a practical problem. Banks operate under rules governing ownership, transfers and customer checks while decentralized finance applications rely on blockchain-based transactions. Moving tokenized assets between the two requires systems that can carry transaction instructions and apply restrictions where needed.
What Happens Next for Chainlink in Japan
Tokenized real-world assets have attracted more capital in 2026. RWA.xyz reported about $39.2 billion in distributed asset value in mid-October, excluding stablecoins. The category includes blockchain-based versions of bonds, funds, credit products, and other traditional assets.
Yet that market size is not a measure of CCIP usage. Nor does Pacific Meta’s decision to prefer CCIP establish how much transaction volume the protocol will receive. The partners have not disclosed expected revenue, bank customers or the amount of tokenized assets they expect to transfer.
The distinction matters for Chainlink’s LINK token. Demand for network infrastructure does not automatically produce the same level of buying demand for the token. Pacific Meta’s agreement expands Chainlink’s access to Japan’s institutional market, but actual adoption will depend on banks moving from trials and partnership plans to live services.
