KUALA LUMPUR: Will the third time be the charm for Low Zi Yu at the World Junior Championships?
The Malaysian earned another chance to end her wait for the girls' doubles crown after reaching her third consecutive final, this time alongside Genevie Lim in Egypt.
Genevie–Zi Yu defeated China's Shi Si Chen–Xiang Yu Jin 15-9, 15-11 in their semi-final at Cairo International Stadium on Friday.
For Zi Yu, another appearance in the title decider gives her a chance to put two successive final defeats behind her.
She claimed silver with Dania Sofea Zaidi in 2024 before repeating that finish alongside Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan last year.
Now, with a third different partner, Zi Yu is one win away from securing the gold that has twice eluded her.
Her latest run underlines her consistency at the world junior level, as she reached the final in three successive editions despite partner changes.
Genevie–Zi Yu won their semi-final in straight games to keep their title hopes alive, ensuring Zi Yu will leave with at least another silver.
However, after coming so close in the previous two editions, the challenge is to turn another final appearance into a breakthrough triumph.
They will face either Japan's Nijika Kamata–Shizuku Kashio or South Korea's Choi Ye Da–Kim Min Chae in the title decider.
