Petra Master Trust says its pension schemes have recorded returns of up to 15.63%, exceeding inflation and helping preserve contributors’ purchasing power.
Speaking at the Petra Master Trust Scheme Annual General Meeting, Head of Portfolio Management and Operations, Yvonne Buliga, said the Petra Opportunity Pension Scheme returned 15.63%, while the Petra Advantage Pension Scheme recorded 15.27%. The Savings Booster Scheme returned 11.73%, against an inflation rate of about 5.4% cited at the event.
“I’m happy to report that they all generated positive real returns,” Ms Buliga said, adding that the performance showed the schemes were “not only growing scheme member funds, but we are also saving and preserving their purchasing power.”
The Petra Advantage Pension Scheme recorded growth of about GH¢800 million, bringing its net asset value to just under GH¢4 billion, while the Petra Opportunity Pension Scheme grew by approximately GH¢544 million to GH¢2.64 billion.
Ms. Buliga said transparency remained central to the management of contributors’ funds, noting that members could access daily investment returns and asset allocation information through Petra’s online portal.
“Transparency is very key for all of us here at Petra, because at the end of the day, the money is not for us. It’s for all of our scheme members,” she said.
Meanwhile, Head of Retail Business at Petra, Seth Koomson, urged workers to take greater responsibility for their retirement planning rather than relying solely on mandatory pension contributions.
“Most times, when something is mandatory, it is the bare minimum required,” he said, adding that a comfortable retirement depended on the financial decisions workers made during their working years.
Mr Koomson furthered that Petra was providing additional investment opportunities, including homeownership options, as well as free financial consultations to help members identify gaps in their financial plans.
He disclosed that the company has helped nearly 80 scheme members secure homes over the past two years.
“We want workers to own their future. Don’t leave it to your employer, and don’t leave it to your tier 2, tier 3, and your tier 1 with SSNIT. There are intentional steps you have to take,” he said.
Petra says strong investment returns and transparent fund management remain critical to protecting contributors’ retirement savings. The company is also urging workers to look beyond mandatory pension contributions and explore additional investments to build financial security and achieve a more comfortable retirement.
