While the 2026-27 college basketball season is a few weeks away from starting, the 2027 recruiting season is also heating up, with the early signing period just a month away (November 12-19).
2027 Consensus No.10-Ranked Prospect Down to 5 Schools
As a result, several top college basketball recruits are getting closer to making a decision. One such player is consensus five-star 2027 recruit Nasir Anderson. Anderson, the consensus No. 10-ranked recruit in the class, is down to five schools after cutting Syracuse and Kentucky from his list and canceling official visits.
Anderson told Rivals Jaime Shaw that he is down to five schools: North Carolina, Providence, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. Of the three main recruiting services, 247 Sports has him highest at No. 8 in the nation, while he is No. 11 on ESPN’s ledger and No. 15 by Rivals.
Anderson is a 6-4 point guard from Duluth, Georgia who is currently playing at Prolific Prep (Florida). Anderson is a powerful, downhill attacker who finishes well at the rim and through contact. He thrives in transition and is an excellent ball handler, distributor, as well as a strong rebounder. Additionally, he has some defensive upside.
“I would describe my game as a guy who likes to win and will do whatever it takes to win on the court,” Anderson said. “Whether I have zero points and 10 rebounds or need to score and showcase my scoring ability, I’ll do whatever it takes to win.”
Anderson, who is coming off a hip injury that sidelined him for most of the summer, has considerable international experience. Before getting injured, the 2025 U16 Americup MVP thrived for Next Generation 3SSB, scoring in double figures in all three of his appearances and dishing out seven assists in each contest. Overall in those three contests, he compiled 15.7 points, 9.7 assists, and 6.0 rebounds with shooting splits of 48.8/33.3/42.9.
“A lefty power guard who plays with a distinct downhill style, Anderson can bully his way to the rim more effectively than arguably any other guard in the national class,” 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein wrote. ” He’s built almost like a football player, with a tremendously powerful upper body, good positional size, and long arms, which allows him to initiate and then absorb all types of contact going to his dominant side. He’s virtually unstoppable with the ball in the open court, and while he looks physically mature, he’s actually young for his grade, having turned 17 in July before his senior year.”
“Beyond his physicality, Anderson has a tight handle, terrific balance, and body control, both on the ground and in mid-air, along with an advanced lay-up package and the vertical explosiveness to rise-up when he has momentum,” Finkelstein continued. “He snaps passes and has made notable strides with his ability to read the floor and create for others.”
Anderson’s Recruitment
Anderson holds 30 offers. Prior to narrowing his list to his current five schools, Anderson trimmed it to 10, which also included Kentucky, Indiana, UConn, Florida and Syracuse. He was slated to head to Lexington last week for his official visit to Kentucky, but canceled the visit on October 5. He also canceled his visit to Syracuse back in mid-September.
Virginia Cavaliers

Virginia projects to have just one scholarship available for next season. However, the Cavaliers have seven players entering their fourth collegiate campaign, including guards Christian Harmon, Jurian Dixon, Sam Lewis and Jan Vide.
Virginia has a commitment from international center Mahamadou Landoure (Mali), who pledged in June. The Cavaliers have several offers out to top 2027 prospects, though Anderson, Demarcus Henry, Paul Osaruyi and Dawson Battle are believed to be their top targets.
“One major takeaway from the Virginia visit was the amount of history and culture they have there,” Anderson said about his September 11 visit to Charlottesville. “It was kind of shocking and eye-opening. I didn’t know too much about them going into the visit, so the biggest thing that drew me there was the relationship I have with Ryan Odom and the rest of the coaching staff. Their facilities were top-tier.”
Providence Friars
Providence projects to have at least three open scholarships in 2027. The Friars also have three players entering their fourth season this year. Of those six players, three are guards — Ryan Sabol, Miles Byrd and Malik Mack.
Head coach Bryan Hodgson has yet to secure a commitment from the class of 2027, though the Friars do have many offers out there. Anderson, Antonio Pemberton, Patrick Otey, Lewis Ovwo and Asa Montgomery are believed to be their top targets.
“The relationships and the coaching staff’s culture really stood out,” Anderson said about his September 4 visit to Providence. “All the guys are great. I feel like they really know how to connect with me and understand me, so Providence is a great spot in that regard.”
North Carolina Tar Heels

North Carolina doesn’t have any commitments for 2027, though the Tar Heels are pursuing several top prospects. Anderson took an official visit to Chapel Hill on September 13.
“It was great. The arena is amazing, and getting to see it in person was something else, Anderson said about his visit. My relationship with Coach (Michael) Malone has been great. He’s an amazing coach.”
Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee has 17 players on its 2026-27 roster. The Vols will lose at least three players at the end of the season and have two other seniors. Guards Tyler Lundblade and Dai Dai Ames are two of the players who may not be in Knoxville next season.
Anderson is scheduled to make his official visit to Knoxville starting on Thursday. Tennessee doesn’t have commits from the class of 2007, but they are pursuing several top-rated prospects. In addition to Anderson, the Volunteers have Malachi Jordan, AJ Williams, Dylan Jones, and Cayden Daugherty as their top targets.
Georgia Bulldogs
Anderson also canceled an official visit to Georgia, though he told Shaw he might still take the trip to Athens.
“I might just go to Georgia,” Anderson said. “My relationship with them has been great. I’ve known them since I was in ninth grade. I have a great relationship with the coaches, including Mike White, Coach (Antonio) Dean, and Coach (Jarvis) Hayes. All of those guys are great.”
Georgia has already secured commitments of two in-state recruits: 6-5 wing Jarvis Hayes Jr. and 6-4 guard Justin Wise. The Bulldogs are pursuing several other top-rated prospects, some of whom have been mentioned above.
The Last Word on Consensus No.10-Ranked Prospect Down to 5 Schools
Anderson told Shaw that he doesn’t have a timeline for making his decision and indicated it likely won’t be before the end of the first signing period in mid-November.
As of right now, UNC appears to have a slight edge in Anderson’s recruitment with Virginia and Tennessee following closely behind. Georgia is likely fourth, thus making Providence fifth. However, there is plenty of time for things to shake out.
“I am going to try to catch a couple of games, maybe take a couple more visits to a couple of these schools, of course,” Anderson said about his thinking about his recruitment. “My relationship with the coaches will be big for me. I’m also looking for a great development plan that can help me get where I want to be during the eight months I’m there, as well as a program that wins.”
