The identity of a man in his 50s accused of binding and killing a couple in their 60s and stealing their money in Naju will be made public on Oct. 14.
The Jeollanam Provincial Police Agency convened a review committee on identity disclosure for the suspect, a 52-year-old surnamed A, who faces charges of robbery resulting in death, and decided to release his personal information in light of the brutality of the crime and the public interest, according to police on the 13th. The Naju Police Station, which received the committee's findings, said it would respect and follow the decision, and the suspect did not file an objection.
As a result, the suspect's name, age and mug shot will be posted on the police website for 30 days, from Oct. 14 through Nov. 13. It marks the second time the Jeollanam Provincial Police Agency has disclosed the identity of a suspect in a violent crime, following Park Dae-sung, who killed a high school girl in Suncheon in 2024.
The suspect is accused of killing the couple, who were acquaintances, at a house in Naju, Jeollanam-do, between 9:28 p.m. and 11:57 p.m. on Oct. 5. He is also accused of withdrawing about 6 million won ($4,200) in cash from an account in a victim's name after the crime. Police upgraded the charge from murder to robbery resulting in death, and a court issued an arrest warrant on Oct. 9, citing the risk that he would flee.
