KUALA LUMPUR: Former Yayasan Bank Rakyat chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin has refused to accept an asset declaration notice issued by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The notice was issued as part of an investigation into suspected misappropriation and abuse of position involving investments worth about RM10 million.
Nazir, his wife and an assistant were summoned to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today to assist in the investigation.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said Nazir was called in to receive a notice requiring him to declare his assets under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009.
Nazir refused to accept the notice, citing an injunction application he filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday to prevent enforcement of the directive.
"His wife and assistant had their statements recorded for about an hour and 30 minutes.
"Nazir, his wife and assistant arrived at MACC headquarters at about 11am today, while his wife and assistant were allowed to leave at 1.15pm," he said.
Abd Halim said the questioning and attempted service of the asset declaration notice took place at MACC headquarters this morning.
The investigation centres on suspected misappropriation and abuse of position involving investment dealings worth about RM10 million.
Nazir arrived at MACC headquarters with two lawyers at about 11am and was still there as of 1pm.
He told reporters that he had filed an injunction application at the Kuala Lumpur High Court yesterday to prevent enforcement of the notice.
He also claimed he could be arrested by the MACC and urged the commission to respect the legal process and await the court's decision on his application.
