The Washington Commanders lost 23-17 to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6 on "Monday Night Football", marking their fourth loss of the 2026 NFL season.
That said, Washington's bigger loss was its star wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, who was carted off with a knee injury.
McLaurin was injured in the first quarter and did not return. Now, it looks like he'll miss significant time as a result.
The veteran receiver has already missed one game this year while dealing with a hamstring injury in Week 4. According to the latest reports on Tuesday, Oct. 20, it's possible McLaurin's latest injury is far more severe.
Here's everything to know about McLaurin's knee injury and how long he will be out for the Commanders.
How long is Terry McLaurin out?
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said after the "Monday Night Football" game that the team is concerned McLaurin's injury "could be significant." The veteran wideout will undergo more scans on Tuesday, Oct. 20, Quinn said. Further updates will come when the head coach speaks to the media later in the day on Oct. 20.
"There's fear," Quinn said.
NFL Media and ESPN insider Ian Rapoport reported the morning of Oct. 20 that McLaurin "is feared to have suffered a serious and season-ending knee injury."
What happened to Terry McLaurin?
McLaurin was carted off the field during the Commanders' Week 6 "Monday Night Football" game after suffering a knee injury in the first quarter.

Terry McLaurin injury update
The Commanders quickly ruled out McLaurin with a knee injury.
The team made the decision shortly after the receiver was carted off the field in the first quarter on "Monday Night Football" against the 49ers.
The Commanders did not provide an official status update after the game, but head coach Dan Quinn said the star receiver will undergo further testing.
"The concern is that it could be significant," Quinn said after the game. "We'll do the scans tomorrow and give you an update."
Commanders WR depth chart
Here's a look at the Commanders' current depth chart at wide receiver:
- Stefon Diggs
- Antonio Williams
- Treylon Burks
- Dyami Brown
- Luke McCaffrey
Veteran Diggs will step in as Jayden Daniels' top target, with rookie third-round pick Williams set for a bigger role. Burks is likely the biggest beneficiary as the most prominent outside, downfield weapon remaining.
