Surveillance footage from an Ayurvedic eye hospital research centre in Koothattukulam, Kerala, India, has resurfaced showing the final moments of former Kenyan prime minister Raila Odinga as he was being rushed from the facility after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The footage captures a group of people wheeling a stretcher towards a waiting vehicle, with an ambulance visible nearby.
Raila died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the age of 80, after collapsing during a morning walk near the facility in the Ernakulam district of Kerala.
What Raila's bodyguard witnessed
Maurice Ogeta, who served as Raila's bodyguard for 29 years, gave a first-hand account of the chaotic scene that unfolded inside the facility before the ambulance transfer.
Ogeta said CPR was being administered so forcefully that he grew alarmed and consulted the attending physician and Raila's doctor, Dr Oluny.
"The way CPR was being done, I think I got even a bit worried I had to ask Dr Oluny, like, even if he gets back to himself, I think we'll still admit him here because maybe some of the ribs will be broken because of the way it was being done," Ogeta recalled.
Dr Oluny reassured him that the technique was correct, explaining that rib fractures during resuscitation were not uncommon.
"There are situations whereby the ribs will get broken — those we look at later," the doctor reportedly told him.
Ogeta also recounted a moment when a nurse who had previously worked in Kenya recognised the patient.
"She came back and asked me. She was looking a bit worried. She asked me, ' Is that Raila? And I was like, yes," he said.
A sombre scene before the transfer
Among the most distressing details Ogeta shared was seeing what appeared to be last-rites preparations being set up inside the facility. He described a stand, a Bible, a candle, and a piece of cloth arranged nearby, prompting him to ask the doctor for reassurance.
"Doc, are you sure we are okay?" Ogeta said he asked, adding that the physician continued to manage the situation without giving a direct answer.
As Kenyans marked the first anniversary of Raila's passing with commemorations at his home in Bondo, Siaya, and tributes honouring his political legacy, the footage has drawn renewed attention to the circumstances surrounding the death of the politician widely regarded as the father of devolution in Kenya.
