The Ottawa Senators’ captain, who left the club’s 3-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers a week ago on the road, was on the ice for the morning skate at the Canadian Tire Centre before facing the New York Rangers to close out a three-game homestand.
Coach Travis Green told reporters before facing the Rangers that Chabot will accompany the team on its five-game road trip when the Senators board their Air Canada Jetz charter on Sunday.
The trip will begin on Tuesday against the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena at 10 p.m. Though Chabot shouldn’t be ruled out of that game, there is a better chance that he returns against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday at Crypto.com Arena.
Chabot has missed two games with the undisclosed upper-body ailment that he aggravated against the Flyers. He had been bothered by the injury heading into the game in Philly and left in the second period.
Green said on Monday that he thought Chabot would be out a week or two, so it wasn’t a shock to see him join his teammates.
“We didn’t expect him to be out long,” Green said. “He’s definitely getting closer.”
The Senators will make one lineup change against the Rangers.

Winger Andre Burakovsky, a big off-season acquisition by Steve Staios, the club’s president of hockey operations and general manager, will return after being a healthy scratch for the last two games.
While backup goalie Samuel Ersson was expected to carry the load as the starter with Linus Ullmark on the injured list, it will be No. 3 goalie Jonas Johansson making the start against the Rangers.
“He’s going to play. Linus is going to be out for a week or two. We thought it’d be best to get him in tonight,” said Green. “Sam just played the other night. He’s played well in Belleville. He’s played a lot in the NHL, so we’ll get him in tonight.”
