For the first time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers have a 2-0 lead in a league championship series. Famously, they went down 0-2 against the California Angels before winning the last three games of the 1982 ALCS on their way to their only World Series appearance. In each of the previous the NLCS’s that they made it to, Milwaukee failed to win the first two games, even when they had homefield advantage.
After winning Game One of this year’s NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1, the Brewers offense mercilessly exacted revenge on Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who famously hurled a complete game against Milwaukee in the NLCS last year. This time around, they chased him after just 2.2 innings on their way to a 7-4 victory.
William Contreras says the Milwaukee Brewers are not done yet
One of the biggest stars of Game Two for Milwaukee was three-time All-Star catcher William Contreras. He went 3-4 at the plate with a home run and three RBI. Additionally, he guided the stellar Brewers bullpen to five perfect innings of relief, setting an MLB record for the most perfect innings by a group of relievers in a single postseason game.
Indeed, the city of Milwaukee was rocking last night as the Brewers took a 2-0 series victory. However, 2-0 is still short of the four wins needed to advance to the World Series, and Contreras says he and the rest of the players know that.
“We’ve got bigger goals. We’re not done yet.”

In his interview with Sophia Minnaert after the game, Contreras praised the team for their performance. When asked about how excited he was, the Brewers catcher admitted that he is enjoying the moment.
However, he also said, “We’ve got bigger goals. We’re not done yet.”
Those goals, of course, are to advance to the World Series, and then win it.
Contreras is certainly doing his part. So far this postseason, he is hitting .391/.481/.783 with three home runs and five RBI. His three bombs have given him five career postseason home runs in a Brewers uniform, which ties him with teammate Jackson Chourio for the most in Brewers history.
Now Milwaukee will hit the road for Los Angeles where the next three games of the NLCS will be played. Hopefully they are able to win at least one game there, but it would be even more glorious if they could take the series in a stadium that has given them fits in the postseason in years past.
If any Brewers team can do it, it is this one. They have their mindset in the right place.
