Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Air routes between Iraq and Kuwait officially reopened on Thursday following a temporary suspension due to security developments in the region.
The flight corridors resumed operations at 2:00 p.m. Baghdad time, reversing a temporary suspension triggered by regional security developments and escalating geopolitical tensions.
The return of aviation travel is being closely monitored to guarantee civilian flight safety in a challenging regional climate.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) oversees the new operating arrangements. Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates all participated in technical discussions and official clearances.
Aircraft must follow specific flight patterns and maintain predetermined heights. This enables regional air traffic controllers to maintain close coordination and ensure safe separation of airplanes.
The Iraqi Ministry of Transport mentioned in a statement that the system will be implemented gradually, with the participating Gulf States constantly monitoring operations to respond fast to any unexpected technical or operational issues.
The prolonged conflict in the Middle East has caused significant disruptions to aviation networks across the region.
Before the arrangement, the framework supported by the ICAO was not yet operational, but it is now helping to restore essential transit paths. However, regional aviation authorities are still closely monitoring real-time security risks.
