Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season after a diagnosis of multiple blood clots in his lungs. The issue started in his left calf ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Oct. 11 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The quarterback reportedly played with a minimal amount of sleep.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni was asked why Hurts was allowed to fly back home despite the knowledge of the blood clots. Sirianni said that it was the medical team’s decision, and the franchise will always prioritize the players’ health.
While Sirianni got a lot of backlash due to his answer, NFL analyst Jeff Saturday defended Sirianni.
“Nick Sirianni was the scapegoat on this. Shame on you, Eagles. Shame on you, Philadelphia, for not putting a medical professional, who actually had input into that decision, up to field these questions,” Saturday said on “First Take” on Tuesday.
“Nick Sirianni had no business addressing those questions, OK? Not even a little bit. He’s not involved in player health and safety. He is the head coach of the Eagles. He is told by medical staff whether a player is up or whether a player is down. He doesn’t control whether a guy gets on a plane to go anywhere; he knows little to nothing, and it was set up that way,” he said.
