The Ministry of Environment has urged the public to avoid gathering near the location where Kawanthissa the elephant, who remains in critical condition, is receiving treatment.
In a statement, the Ministry said specialist veterinary teams from the Department of Wildlife Conservation are working around the clock to save the elephant, administering saline and essential medications while carrying out necessary medical procedures to stabilize his condition.
However, the Ministry warned that large gatherings near the treatment area could cause severe stress to the elephant and disrupt the sensitive medical procedures being carried out by veterinary teams.
According to wildlife veterinarians, maintaining a quiet and calm environment is essential to help stabilize the elephant’s heart rate, blood pressure and physical responses.
The Ministry has therefore requested the public to refrain from entering the treatment area unnecessarily, gathering near the location, making excessive noise or operating drone cameras.
It also urged the public to allow veterinary teams to carry out their duties without interference.
The Ministry emphasised that the best way for the public to show their concern and compassion for Kawanthissa is to maintain a peaceful environment and support the veterinary teams working to save his life. (Newswire)
