In Episode 3 of Behind the Bodycam, Retired NYPD Detective Lieutenant Ralph Cilento breaks down the deadly NYPD bodycam encounter that unfolded in the heart of Times Square after 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros allegedly stabbed two strangers in random attacks, killing 32-year-old Erin Piacenti and wounding a 68-year-old man. Officers find Cisneros still armed with two knives and spend several tense minutes trying to talk her down before multiple Tasers prove ineffective and the confrontation suddenly turns deadly.
Using multiple police bodycam angles, Ralph analyzes the officers’ de-escalation tactics, positioning, communication and use-of-force decisions as they repeatedly plead with Cisneros to drop the knives. He breaks down why officers initially keep their firearms holstered, how they attempt to build rapport while protecting bystanders in crowded Times Square, and the split-second transition from negotiation to deadly force when Cisneros advances toward police, examining a tragic encounter in which, as Ralph puts it, “everyone loses.”
