Theranos whistleblower says former boss Elizabeth Holmes is 'almost unrecognizable' in new documentary and claims filmmakers were misled

One of the Theranos whistleblowers who contributed to the $9 billion biotech company's downfall said his former boss and fraudster Elizabeth Holmes appears 'almost unrecognizable' in an explosive new documentary.

You Can See Everything offers an intimate look at Holmes's final days at home before she surrendered to serve an 11-year sentence after running her blood-testing company, Theranos, into the ground.

Former employee Tyler Shultz helped a Wall Street Journal investigation uncover that the technology the company sold never worked after being a Theranos intern in 2013.

When watching the hotly anticipated new doc, Shultz said he was 'pretty shocked' by how his former boss came across on the screen as she does 'not at all' resemble the woman he knows.

'The Elizabeth that I knew completely commanded a room, even if that room was full of secretaries of state, secretaries of defense, generals, senators. She would own a room,' Shultz told CBS.

Shultz's own grandfather, former US Secretary of State George Shultz, was on the board of Theranos.

'She had so much confidence, and the woman that I saw onscreen looked, frankly, like a, a broken woman,' the informant added. 'It was almost unrecognizable.'

The whistleblower added that he believes Holmes misled the documentary's filmmakers by presenting a different blood-testing tool than 'the device that I worked with 12 hours a day.'

'She brings out the Theranos device, and she lays it across the table and all of its components, so you know you can see everything' but that what she shows on camera 'was not the device that we hid from regulators,' Shultz explained.

'That was not the device that failed quality controls. That was not the device that we used to knowingly give patients incorrect medical information, and she completely misled [Fielder] down this completely different rabbit hole.'

Director Nathan Fielder moved in with Holmes and followed her with a film crew for 34 days while she prepared for her 11 years in prison.

The entrepreneur was convicted in 2022 on four counts of fraud and conspiracy connected to Theranos investors.

She was also ordered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in restitution alongside former Theranos executive and ex-boyfriend Ramesh Balwani.

Her sentence has since been shortened, including after a federal judge reduced it by 12 months in March following changes to federal sentencing guidelines affecting certain first-time, non-violent offenders.

Holmes has also sought an early release from prison, including asking President Donald Trump for clemency.

She is back in the public eye thanks to the movie that turned out to be the second-most lucrative documentary in the box office the first weekend after it was released on October 16.

Holmes is set to leave federal prison next August and move into a Texas halfway house after she has reportedly been approved for transfer from the minimum-security federal prison where she has been locked up since May 2023 to a community correction center near Austin.
