Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem on Wednesday met six officers undergoing the 54th Common Training Programme at the Central Police Office, highlighting the importance of practical policing experience and modern technology in improving law enforcement.
According to a spokesperson, the delegation comprised three officers from the Police Service of Pakistan, two from the Foreign Service of Pakistan and one from the Pakistan Administrative Service.
The IGP said practical experience of field policing, observation and decision-making was essential for the professional development of trainee officers. He added that exposure to the working of different police departments would help broaden their understanding and enhance their professional capabilities.
He said Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had equipped Punjab Police with modern resources and information technology-based applications. Under the chief minister’s Safe Punjab vision, a zero-tolerance policy was being implemented against violence, abuse and harassment targeting women and children, he added.
Abdul Kareem said the entire province had been shifted to an artificial intelligence-enabled Safe City system to strengthen public safety and policing.
The spokesperson said the trainee officers had been attached to various departments for five days to learn about their functions, including Operations, Internal Accountability Branch (IAB), Research and Development, and Traffic Management.
