Chavara police have registered a domestic violence case against a man and his parents following allegations of brutal physical abuse against a newly married 24-year-old woman over dowry demands.
The victim, Anju of Anagha Mandiram in Neendakara, has been admitted to the Kollam District Hospital with multiple severe injuries. The accused include her husband, Nandu (28) of Mundakkath House, Parimanam, and his parents, Dinesh and Jagadamma. The couple was married on July 27, and the complaint states that mental harassment regarding insufficient dowry began within weeks of the wedding.
The physical abuse escalated after Nandu took her to Saudi Arabia, where he was employed. He allegedly subjected her to relentless assaults and the victim bears around 30 bruise marks across her body, with severe blood clotting visible in multiple areas. After returning home on September 30, the young woman filed a formal complaint with the police. The marriage had taken place shortly after she completed her postgraduate degree in data analytics.
Meanwhile, Women and Child Development Minister Bindu Krishna assured that comprehensive legal assistance and security will be provided to the young woman currently undergoing treatment at Kollam District Hospital. Describing the atrocities faced by the victim as unparalleled cruelty, the Minister directed authorities to take stringent legal action against the culprits. Speaking with the victim over the phone from Gujarat, the Minister gathered details about the incident.
