The Belgrade Remains activist network said police searched the Zemun apartment of its activist Srdjan Ilic on Wednesday under a Higher Court order, on suspicion of calling for the violent overthrow of constitutional order, a charge which draws a jail sentence of up to 5 years.

The network said Ilic was taken into custody and all of his electronic devices seized. It denied reports by the pro-government newspaper Politika that Ilic organised and trained boxers for potential street clashes before and after Serbia's October 25 parliamentary elections, or that he formed so-called mobile teams to prepare for violence.
It described the allegations as an attempt to intimidate activists and the public ahead of the vote, saying the public deserved answers about the grounds for the accusations. Belgrade Remains said it would use all available legal means to protect Ilic's rights and establish the facts.
Belgrade Remains organized earlier protests to stop the demolition of a historic central Belgrade bridge.
