It's no secret that Motorola is preparing to make another splash in the foldable smartphone market with its upcoming wide, passport-style foldable that is tentatively called the Razr Flex 27. However, a leaked benchmark listing cements the belief that the phone won't have the newest chipset, but will help with the cost against its chief rivals.
A fresh Geekbench 6 listing shows prototype identified as the Motorola Razr Flex 27 running Android 17. Most notably, it shows that the device sports a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM. The choice of SoC mirrors that of the well-reviewed Razr Fold, although it is not impossible that there could be a 16GB variant of the Flex 27. As you can see from this testing, the phone achieved a single-core score of 2,669 and a multi-core score of 8,837, which is more than powerful enough for multitasking, media consumption, and gaming.
By opting for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 rather than other price-inflated versions such as the Elite, Motorola appears to be positioning the Razr Flex 27 as a more affordable alternative in a category dominated by exorbitant price tags. To wit, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Apple iPhone Duo start at $1,900 and $2,000, respectively. Only time will tell if Motorola's gamble in offering near-flagship speed and robust multitasking capabilities while keeping the MSRP significantly lower will pay off.
Outside of the leak, we already know of the Razr Flex 27's passport-style form factor. The main internal folding screen measures 6.92 inches with a 2364x1728 resolution and a very competitive 16 Hz refresh rate. The cover display is a 4.97-inch unit at a 3:2 aspect ratio, making it smaller (albeit thicker) and lighter (215 grams) than major rivals, and this is despite carrying a sizeable battery (either 5,000mAh or 6,000mAh) with Qi2 25W wireless charging.
Camera hardware features a dual rear lens array comprised of a 50MP primary and a 50MP ultra-wide, along with two 32MP front cameras housed on the inner and outer screens. You'd quickly notice that there's no telephoto camera, which could be to keep costs and thickness down. The chassis itself is believed to be IP49 protected and wrapped in Pantone Coriander and Pantone Dark Botanical Garden colorways.
The Motorola Razr Flex 27 is expected to launch mid-December—too late to make Black Friday sales, but just in time for Christmas. If you really gotta have passport foldable right now, perhaps check out the Apple iPhone Duo.
