Yelich Gives Milwaukee an Early Spark
The Brewers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Christian Yelich delivered an RBI triple in the bottom of the first inning to give Milwaukee a 1-0 lead. William Contreras followed with an RBI single, extending the advantage to 2-0 and immediately putting pressure on Tampa Bay’s pitching staff.
On the mound, rookie right-hander Jacob Misiorowski made an impression early. He fired a 103.5 mph pitch, setting a World Series velocity record in the pitch-tracking era. His electric fastball gave Milwaukee a major weapon as the Brewers attempted to keep Tampa Bay’s lineup under control.
The Rays finally broke through in the fourth inning when Liam Hicks grounded out to bring home a run, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Tampa Bay continued looking for opportunities, but Milwaukee’s pitching and defense limited the damage.
Chourio Adds an Important Insurance Run
Milwaukee regained a two run cushion in the seventh inning. Jackson Chourio delivered an RBI single to make it 3-1, giving the Brewers a valuable insurance run heading into the final innings.
The hit proved crucial as Tampa Bay continued battling. The Rays threatened in the ninth, cutting the deficit to one run when Liam Hicks brought home a runner. Tampa Bay also attempted a double steal to put the tying run in scoring position, creating a tense situation for Milwaukee’s bullpen.
However, the Brewers managed to escape the late threat and secure the final out, protecting the narrow lead and sending the home crowd into celebration.
Brewers Take Control of the Series
The 3-2 victory gives Milwaukee a 1-0 lead in the World Series and provides an important confidence boost after a long postseason journey. The Brewers received contributions from their offense early, added a key insurance run late and held on when the Rays made their final push.
Yelich and Contreras set the tone in the opening inning, while Chourio’s seventh-inning hit ultimately helped make the difference.
Milwaukee will now look to carry that momentum into Game 2. With the opening victory secured, the Brewers have an opportunity to put additional pressure on Tampa Bay and move one step closer to the franchise’s first World Series championship.
