With fall well underway, who better to give us a lesson in layering than Princess Catherine? The royal stepped out this morning in Wales wearing the perfect seasonal look as she joined her husband, Prince William, in welcoming the Sultan and Prime Minister of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, on his historic state visit.
For the occasion, the Princess of Wales dusted off an emerald-green coatdress from Alexander McQueen that she previously wore for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade just last year. It features a double-breasted closure and a single button along the waist, with other details such as pointy shoulders, notch lapels, and a midi cut.

While Kate loves her green coats (she’s worn over 20 variations of them over the years), she decided to zhuzh this one up by layering it over a lacy black high-neck top, which peeked out from underneath the outerwear for a romantic and daring touch.

And if there’s one thing Kate loves more than a green coat, it’s a monochromatic look, so she finished her ensemble with a few matching green accessories, including a quilted patent-leather flap bag from Chanel, velvet pumps from Manolo Blahnik, and a bespoke fascinator from the Juliette millinery.
For jewelry, she chose chandelier-style drop earrings from Cassandra Goad, while pinning the Prince of Wales Feathers Brooch (which previously belonged to Princess Diana) to one side of her chest.

Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman’s state visit marks a historic moment, as it has been 44 years since an Omani monarch last paid a trip to the United Kingdom. His visit is expected to last three days.
