MONROVIA, Liberia, October 22, 2026 – The Ministry of National Defense (MoD) and the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) have administratively discharged two military personnel with immediate effect following the circulation of a video on social media allegedly showing an incident of domestic violence involving a woman in Paynesville, Montserrado County.
The two discharged personnel have been identified as Sgt. Roberts P. Menyon and Sgt. Abu S. B. Sheriff. The woman involved was identified as Alfredia Blessing Kpaegai, a resident of Thinker Village, Paynesville.
The administrative action was announced at a ceremony held Wednesday at the Barclay Training Center (BTC) in Monrovia, where AFL Chief of Staff Major General Davidson F. Forleh reaffirmed the military’s commitment to discipline, professionalism, and respect for human dignity.
Speaking during the ceremony, Major General Forleh said the incident was inconsistent with the values and standards expected of members of the Armed Forces of Liberia.
“A Force for Good,” the AFL’s motto, reflects the institution’s commitment to protecting human dignity and recognizing the rights and equal value of women as partners in national development, he emphasized.
Forleh stressed that the Armed Forces would not tolerate conduct by its personnel that abuses, humiliates, or devalues women or any other person.
He said the administrative discharge demonstrates the military’s determination to hold its personnel accountable for misconduct and ensure that their actions remain consistent with the responsibilities entrusted to them by the Liberian people.
According to the Chief of Staff, the measures are intended to reinforce institutional standards, discourage similar incidents, and strengthen public confidence in the Armed Forces.
The Ministry of National Defense said the administrative discharge was carried out under Chapter 7, Section 7.7(g) and (j) of the National Defense Act of 2008.
The cited provisions address discharge for misconduct and discharge in the interest of the service or for conduct inconsistent with AFL standards and the Constitution of Liberia.
Meanwhile, the woman identified as Alfredia Blessing Kpaegai is receiving medical care at the 14-Military Hospital following a directive from the AFL Chief of Staff.
The Ministry of National Defense also acknowledged the public’s role and patience in response to the incident, while urging citizens to report allegations of violence involving military personnel.
The Ministry further that public cooperation was important to ensuring that allegations of misconduct within the Armed Forces receive appropriate attention.
The administrative discharge comes amid public attention surrounding the circulating video and renewed calls for accountability in cases involving alleged violence against women.
