KATHMANDU: Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal has said that festivals such as Dashain help strengthen mutual understanding, brotherhood and social unity among Nepalis while promoting harmony amid diversity.
In a message marking Bada Dashain, the country’s biggest festival, Speaker Aryal extended his heartfelt wishes to all Nepalis at home and abroad for happiness, peace, prosperity, good health, longevity and continued progress.
He also wished for Goddess Durga Bhawani’s blessings for greater unity and strength in the country, expressing confidence that the festival would inspire renewed energy, fresh ideas and a stronger commitment to nation-building.
“The Federal Parliament remains committed to formulating and amending timely and people-friendly laws in line with public aspirations while safeguarding popular sovereignty and state authority to achieve good governance, social justice and prosperity,” Aryal said in his message.
Referring to Nepal’s multi-ethnic, multilingual, multi-religious and multicultural society, Aryal said Dashain symbolises the triumph of virtue over evil and truth over falsehood.
He expressed hope that the festival would inspire people to uphold democratic values and follow the path of social justice and integrity.
Nepal is celebrating Bijaya Dashami, the 10th day of Bada Dashain, today. The festival begins with Ghatasthapana and reaches its main celebration on the 10th day, when people receive tika, jamara and blessings from their elders. The celebrations continue until Kojagrat Purnima, the full moon day.
