The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has introduced an online verification system to help individuals and institutions confirm the authenticity of gazettes and curb the circulation of fake documents.
The system allows the public to check whether a gazette is genuine without having to visit the company’s offices.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, October 19, 2026, GPCL Managing Director, Nana Kwasi Boatey, Esq., said the initiative forms part of efforts to address the problem of fake gazettes.
He said the company had already taken steps to tackle the issue, but the new online system would make it easier for the public to distinguish genuine publications from fraudulent ones.
Previously, individuals and institutions seeking to verify a gazette had to contact or visit GPCL. The new system allows them to conduct the checks online.
Gazettes are official government publications used to announce notices, appointments and other matters required by law. Their authenticity is important to individuals and institutions that rely on them for official and legal purposes.
Mr Boatey also announced that GPCL was making gazette publications available online, allowing the public to check what has been published and when.
He said the move was expected to help resolve disputes over publication dates, including those involving election-related notices.
Making the publications accessible online is also intended to improve public access to official information and make it easier to verify documents presented as Ghana Gazettes.
The initiative forms part of GPCL’s broader efforts to use technology to improve access to its services and strengthen confidence in official publications.
