Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has opened up about the emotional and physical challenges he faced after a stray bullet injury forced him to stay away from work for months.
In a video shared on his official Instagram page on Wednesday night, the entertainer recounted how he was shot on 9th March, 2026, while carrying out a brand activation assignment.
He described the incident as “a day in his life he wished never happened”.
Shaggi sustained the injury while filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State.
Recalling the frightening moments after he was shot, the comedian said he was overwhelmed by fear as he saw blood and waited for medical attention.
He said: “I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered.”
He added: “A lot was happening at the same time. I was sweating. I was holding my leg, you know, I was seeing blood and all I wanted to hear was a doctor or a nurse telling me, ‘Samuel, you’ll be fine.’”
The injury also left him worried about his career, particularly because dancing and physical performances are central to his comedy.
He said: “Since 2018 till date I never rest. It’s always back to back. If I’m not writing I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something.”
Shaggi explained that his extended absence made him fear that fans might forget him while he struggled to recover.
The comedian initially underwent surgery in Nigeria but was advised to undergo further treatment and physiotherapy.
After about four months, he travelled to Dubai for another operation, which he said significantly improved his condition.
According to the comedian, he was able to stand with support on the second day after the surgery and walk with crutches on the third day.
Reflecting on how narrowly he escaped a more serious injury, Shaggi said: “It was a stray bullet and it came this way to my hip. What if it had come this way and hit my head or hit any vital organ?”
Giving an update on his recovery, he said he could now stand without crutches but still needed them for support.
He said: “I’m still using my crutches for now. But there was a period where I couldn’t move without the two crutches.
He continued: “I couldn’t even put my leg on the floor, you know. But now I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support with the crutches.”
Expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal, the entertainer described his recovery as a second chance at life and assured fans that he had exciting projects ahead.
He added: “I’m grateful to be alive. It’s second chance. You should also be grateful to have Shaggy back on your screen because right now I’m coming with exciting projects.”
Shaggi also encouraged his followers to look forward to his return, promising that several projects were lined up as he continues his recovery.
