MELAKA: Pakatan Harapan is placing political stability, economic prosperity, public welfare and good governance as the four main pillars of its offer to Melaka voters in the upcoming state election.
Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the four pillars were essential to ensuring effective government administration and that development benefited all segments of society.
He said PH, which had long struggled as an opposition coalition before being entrusted with governing the country, recognised that power was a major test for any political coalition.
"When we are given the mandate to govern, political stability becomes the foundation for national development, followed by efforts to strengthen the economy and ensure the people's welfare remains protected," he said.
He was speaking at the announcement of PH's candidates and the launch of its Melaka election machinery at the grounds of Hang Jebat Stadium in Krubong here tonight.
Saifuddin, who is also home minister, said these efforts had to be supported by good governance, particularly in managing public finances to prevent leakages, waste, overspending and corruption.
"Do not allow funds to be siphoned off, do not waste money, do not allow leakages and never engage in corruption. Public finances must be safeguarded," he said.
On preparations for the election, he reminded candidates, party machinery and supporters to learn from the coalition's political struggles and continue working to ensure its proposals were clearly communicated to the people.
He said cooperation among PH component parties, PKR, DAP and Amanah, had to be strengthened, with each party supporting candidates from its coalition partners as if they were its own.
He said this spirit of solidarity was important to ensure the entire election machinery worked in a coordinated manner.
Saifuddin expressed confidence that PH stood a chance of achieving a better result in the coming election if all its component parties and election machinery worked together with the same fighting spirit.
