Gurugram electricity cut today: What are the strike timings?
The three-day strike by Haryana electricity employees began at around 10 pm on Wednesday, October 21, and was scheduled to continue until October 24. The agitation affected power supplies across Gurugram, Faridabad and Nuh. Employees warned that breakdowns and faults could remain unattended because a large section of the regular workforce was participating in the protest. Consumers should not assume that supply will return at a particular hour. Restoration depends on the status of the local fault and the availability of staff to carry out repairs.
Why are electricity workers on strike in Haryana?
The strike is linked to the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission's decision to grant a parallel electricity distribution licence to private company Eleven Power for Gurugram and Nuh. The licence, granted for 25 years, has triggered opposition from electricity employees and engineers who fear that the move could lead to privatisation, threaten jobs and weaken the state-run distribution network.
The unions have demanded that the licence be withdrawn. The dispute has also brought the Haryana government and electricity employees into discussions over how to address their concerns. Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij has described the strike as unnecessary and said the government would challenge the regulator's decision before the appropriate appellate tribunal. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has also said the government would contest the order.
How are residents and businesses affected?
The outages have caused problems beyond homes going dark. In several neighbourhoods, residents have reported water shortages because pumps and boosting stations depend on electricity. Inverters have also run out of charge during prolonged cuts, affecting work-from-home arrangements, online classes and daily household activities. Some residents have taken to the streets to demand the restoration of power.
Industrial operations have suffered too. Nearly 1,800 manufacturing units in the Sector 37 and Kadipur industrial areas were reported to have faced disruption. Units in Basai were also affected, with manufacturers warning of financial losses and delays in production. The effects have extended to Faridabad and Nuh, where residents and businesses have also reported outages.
Where can Gurgaon residents register electricity complaints?
Residents facing an outage can try the following DHBVN complaint channels reported by local media:
- 1912: Electricity complaint helpline.
- 180010804334: DHBVN toll-free complaint number.
- 8813999708: WhatsApp complaint number.
- 9540954768: WhatsApp complaint number.
The availability of these channels does not guarantee an immediate response during the strike. Residents should record their complaint number, if provided, and check for updates from the district administration or their local electricity office.
