Shillong, Oct 18: A suspected petrol bomb was allegedly hurled at Mawbah, Mawprem, near Shiv Mandir, at around 9.30 pm on Saturday, with an abandoned scooty partially burnt in the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, they heard a loud noise outside and later noticed the suspected petrol bomb had landed near a scooty and a momo stall without exploding. They also reported seeing a wire catch fire.
Fortunately, no one was injured, although eyewitnesses said the suspected petrol bomb could potentially have landed on the roof of a nearby house.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said police had received information about the incident and were investigating the matter.
Asked whether it was a suspected petrol bomb attack, Syiem said the matter was being verified.
“We are trying to ascertain the facts,” the SP said.
Police rushed to the spot and initiated an investigation to identify those involved.
