Sunlight can gradually change the materials used in outdoor equipment, even when those materials are designed to withstand the weather. Research reviewed by the United Nations Environment Programme identifies ultraviolet radiation as a factor in the deterioration of plastics, particularly when combined with heat and other environmental conditions. For barbecue owners in the UAE, where outdoor cooking equipment may spend much of the year on a terrace or in a garden, this is a useful reminder that storage matters. A properly fitted grill cover provides a practical barrier against direct sunshine, settling dust and occasional rain, helping keep the barbecue ready for its next use.
How UAE weather affects an outdoor barbecue
The effects of outdoor exposure depend on a grill's construction. Stainless steel, painted metal, plastic controls and rubber components respond differently to sunshine, moisture and airborne particles.
Ultraviolet radiation is particularly relevant to plastic and polymer components. Published research in the Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology explains how UV exposure can affect the mechanical properties of materials used outdoors. Protective coatings and UV stabilisers help slow this process.
Dust presents a different maintenance issue. Windblown particles can settle on cooking surfaces, shelves, handles and around control fittings. A cover reduces direct accumulation on these exposed areas, although the grill still needs regular cleaning.
Rainfall adds another consideration. Water left around joints, fittings or vulnerable metal surfaces can contribute to corrosion over time, depending on the materials involved.
A cover helps limit exposure to these conditions, but it cannot replace cleaning, drying and appropriate storage.
What makes a good BBQ grill cover?
Four details deserve attention: UV resistance, water resistance, fastening and fit.
UV-resistant materials are designed to withstand sunlight exposure better than untreated alternatives. Water-resistant fabric helps shed rainfall, while waterproof construction may offer additional protection depending on seams and closures.
Weber, for example, specifies UV inhibitors, breathable water-resistant fabric and fastening straps on its premium grill covers, illustrating how these features work together.
Fit is equally important. An oversized cover can flap in the wind, while one that is too small may leave shelves or controls exposed.
Look beyond broad claims such as all-weather protection. Actual dimensions, material specifications and fastening details are more useful when deciding whether a cover suits your barbecue.

EASYBUYTECH Waterproof BBQ Grill Cover
The EASYBUYTECH Waterproof BBQ Grill Cover is a practical option to consider for a rectangular outdoor barbecue, particularly one kept on a UAE terrace, patio or garden.
Made from 210D Oxford fabric, the EASYBUYTECH BBQ Grill Cover is designed to protect outdoor barbecues from sunshine, airborne dust and occasional rainfall. According to the seller, its waterproof construction helps shield the grill from moisture, while the UV-resistant design is intended to withstand prolonged sunlight exposure, particularly relevant for UAE gardens and terraces.
Measuring 145 x 61 x 117cm, this cover provides a starting point for assessing compatibility with your grill. The cover is intended to sit over the barbecue between cooking sessions, limiting direct contact with airborne dust and weather.
For everyday maintenance, the cover can be rinsed with water and allowed to dry. An included foldable polyester storage bag makes it convenient to put away when the barbecue is in use.
Why the correct size matters
Before ordering, measure your barbecue with its lid closed and side shelves in their normal storage position.
Record the maximum width, front-to-back depth and height, including any handles or protruding components. Compare those measurements with the cover's stated dimensions rather than relying on a general compatibility description.
The EASYBUYTECH model's advertised size makes measurement particularly important. A cover should slide over the grill without excessive stretching, while leaving enough clearance for convenient removal.
Avoid allowing fabric to bunch around the base or rest in standing water. A reasonably close fit also makes fastening more effective.
Keeping your cover and grill in good condition
Allow the barbecue to cool completely before fitting its cover. Weber's product guidance also stresses that cooking equipment should be cool before being covered.
Wipe away grease and food residue, then ensure exposed surfaces are dry. Covering a damp barbecue can trap moisture, especially if the material has limited breathability.
Dust can also accumulate on the cover itself. Gently removing loose particles before cleaning helps avoid rubbing grit across the fabric. Follow the manufacturer's care instructions and allow the cover to dry before refitting.
These simple habits help the protective material remain useful through repeated outdoor cooking sessions.
A small addition with a practical purpose
For UAE barbecue owners, a well-fitted cover is a sensible way to reduce routine exposure to sunshine, dust and occasional rainfall.
The EASYBUYTECH Waterproof BBQ Grill Cover is a practical option that provides a secure fit and reliable protection for your grill.
Prioritise fit first, followed by verified UV resistance and effective water protection. Keep the grill clean and dry beneath the cover, and remember that no fabric provides permanent protection against outdoor weathering.
