Anthony Davis had a rousing debut with the Washington Wizards, leading them to victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, 128-116, in their season opener at Capital One Arena on Wednesday.
Davis, who failed to suit up for the Wizards last season due to multiple injuries, had 34 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block. He shot 11-of-20 from the field and 11-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Trae Young said he was not surprised at all by Davis’ impressive showing.

“Seeing the way AD has been looking, in the offseason and in workouts, preseason with the guys and everything, just his mentality, his conversations around the team, I just knew he was going to be ready,” said Young in the video posted by The District Standard’s Bijan Todd.
He also expressed his belief that Davis can reach greater heights.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on him, but for me, having a guy like that, I want to help him get MVP,” added Young.
“Nights like tonight, and if we continue to win games, he’s gonna be in the conversation. He’s a top-75 player for a reason.”

Young contributed 20 points, 13 assists, and two steals. He played only five games with the Wizards last season due to recurring injuries.
Davis toyed with every defender the Bucks threw at him, reminding everyone that he is still one of the league’s most lethal big men.
Washington acquired Young and Davis, who have a combined 14 All-Star appearances, before the trade deadline from the Atlanta Hawks and the Dallas Mavericks, respectively.
Davis was mentioned in trade rumors in the offseason, but he stressed that he is keen on playing for the Wizards and helping the team regain respectability.
