JOHOR BAHRU: A seven-year-old boy died yesterday evening after allegedly falling from the 10th floor of a flat in Taman Perling, here, while playing.
Acting Johor Bahru Utara police chief Azrol Anuar Nor said the boy sustained severe injuries to his head, arms and body and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
He said the victim was found lying on the ground by residents, adding that police received a report at about 5.30pm.
“Preliminary investigations found that the victim was playing with several other children at the 10th-floor corridor of the block of flats. He reportedly used a bicycle to climb over the corridor wall before falling,” Azrol said in a statement.
Azrol said a post-mortem examination was conducted at 11am today and a forensic medical officer confirmed that the cause of death was injuries sustained from a fall from a height.
He said police had recorded statements from four witnesses to assist in the investigation, which had been classified as a sudden death report.
He advised the public, particularly parents and guardians, to monitor their children and ensure they do not climb or play in high-risk areas.
Those with information may contact the Johor Bahru Utara police headquarters hotline at 07-5563122 to assist in the investigation.
