WHEN Tanzania’s name was announced among the distinguished guests at Bati-Est Expo 2026 in Constantine, Algeria, the occasion offered more than diplomatic recognition. It created a platform to present the country’s expanding construction industry, infrastructure ambitions and opportunities for Algerian businesses seeking partners and markets in Africa.
Tanzanian Ambassador to Algeria Mobhare Matinyi represented the country as guest of honour at the ninth edition of the international exhibition for construction, real estate and public works. The three-day event opened on October 14, 2026, alongside Constantine Governor Kerbouch Kamel, at an official ceremony attended by participants from several countries.
Speaking to Algeria Press Service, Ambassador Matinyi invited investors and entrepreneurs in Algeria’s construction sector to explore opportunities in Tanzania. He highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between the two countries and argued that Tanzania’s economic activity, investment priorities and regional position offered a strong basis for commercial cooperation.
“The construction sector in Tanzania contributes about 13 percent of the gross domestic product, and grows at an average of 10 percent per year,” Matinyi said, describing the country as welcoming to investors and entrepreneurs.
Those figures help explain why construction has become an important part of Tanzania’s development story. Demand for transport links, housing, public facilities and utilities creates opportunities for companies able to provide capital, technical expertise, equipment and building materials.
Tanzania’s location adds another consideration. Positioned where eastern, central and southern Africa meet, the country is a member of both the East African Community and the Southern African Development Community. These regional groupings connect it to neighbouring markets and reinforce its potential as a base for businesses seeking opportunities beyond one national economy.
Ambassador Matinyi said President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan had placed particular emphasis on expanding investment opportunities in construction, a sector experiencing substantial activity and attracting capital. He added that the government recognised construction’s role in diversifying the economy and had promoted Tanzania’s investment potential across Africa and internationally.
The opportunities extend across a broad range of public and commercial developments. Strategic projects under implementation include the construction and expansion of ports and airports, the standard gauge railway linking neighbouring countries, and improvements to the national road network. Together, these investments are intended to strengthen transport connections and support the movement of people, goods and services.
Other projects include residential buildings, hospitals, schools, hotels, sports stadiums, and water and electricity infrastructure. Such developments require varied inputs, from steel structures, doors, paints and fencing to finishing products, specialist equipment and technical services. They can therefore create openings for manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and investors, depending on procurement requirements and project needs.
Dodoma, the national capital, is also undergoing development and expansion. Ambassador Matinyi noted that the city is expected to have Tanzania’s fourth international airport, after those serving Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar.
The embassy’s engagement at Bati-Est Expo went beyond delivering a speech. It held discussions with several companies interested in exploring investment opportunities in Tanzania, forming partnerships, participating in construction projects, producing and exporting building materials, or importing raw materials from Tanzania.
The firms represented different parts of the construction supply chain. ERCM Salhi specialises in steel construction, while Mirage Landmark focuses on residential apartments. DEI and Fhaima manufacture modern security doors. Paint manufacturers included ENAP, Julex Color and Semin Algerie, while Atom Metal produces steel fencing and Golden Grass manufactures artificial turf.
The range of companies suggests that potential cooperation need not be limited to large construction contracts. It could also involve supply agreements, technical partnerships and trade in products used in buildings and public spaces. Whether discussions develop into concrete business will depend on follow-up, due diligence, suitable commercial terms and the specific needs of projects in Tanzania.
Organised by Sunflower Communication, the ninth Bati-Est Expo hosted 167 exhibitors, mainly from Algeria, alongside participants from Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, Tunisia and Egypt.
The construction exhibition was not the embassy’s only engagement in eastern Algeria. On October 13, a day before the official opening in Constantine, Ambassador Matinyi visited the fourth International Investment and Technology in Agriculture Expo in Annaba, known as Agritech Expo Annaba 2026. There, he also met Algerian companies interested in investing in Tanzania and conducting business with Tanzanian partners.
The agricultural discussions broadened the investment message beyond infrastructure. Fertiliser manufacturers New Fertilizers and Agrosafia were among the firms identified. Biotec-in, which specialises in animal nutrition, health and reproduction, also expressed interest in the Tanzanian market. Alviar showed interest in importing cattle from Tanzania, while Giplait manufactures dairy products.
Other companies presented technologies linked to water supply and processing. Weetel Water uses moisture in the air to produce water, while Treox and Aquaox use salt and electricity to purify water. Chadian cashew nut processor Sofood Sogood was also among the firms identified during the engagement.
These interests point to possible areas for dialogue involving agricultural inputs, livestock trade, animal health, dairy processing, water technology and cashew processing. They do not, by themselves, establish that agreements have been signed or investments secured.
Agritech Expo Annaba 2026 ran from October 13 to 15 and was organised by Incop Communication and Event Management. Its fourth edition featured 117 exhibitors from Algeria and several other countries, bringing together businesses working across agriculture and related technologies.
Taken together, the two exhibitions provided a platform for Tanzania to promote opportunities in construction and agriculture, while engaging companies with different products and areas of expertise.
For Tanzania, the next step is to turn interest into practical engagement. Sustained contact, market information and careful assessment of commercial needs will be essential to move beyond initial interest and establish strong, lasting and mutually beneficial cooperation. Companies considering the market need clear information about investment procedures, procurement opportunities, standards, logistics and potential local partners. Tanzanian businesses, in turn, may benefit from identifying Algerian suppliers, technology providers and buyers whose interests complement domestic needs and production capacity.
The scale of the country’s infrastructure programme offers a compelling context for these conversations, but investment decisions will ultimately depend on commercial viability and project-specific requirements. Similarly, agricultural cooperation will require careful assessment of product quality, supply capacity, transport arrangements and applicable regulations.
Ambassador Matinyi’s participation in Constantine, alongside his meetings in Annaba, placed both sectors before Algerian businesses and highlighted Tanzania’s regional position and development priorities. The exhibitions have opened channels for discussion; sustained follow-up will determine whether those conversations lead to investment, trade and lasting partnerships.
As Tanzania continues to develop its infrastructure and productive sectors, engagement with international companies can help widen access to expertise, materials, technology and markets. The opportunity now is to translate exhibition-floor conversations into viable cooperation that supports business growth and Tanzania’s wider development objectives.
