Washington women's basketball released a video on social media Tuesday to announce some major news regarding one of their offseason additions.
In the video, a Huskies staffer informs the team at a September practice that Hungarian guard Petra Toman, who joined the team this offseason, has been granted two seasons of eligibility by the NCAA. Toman, who turned 21 in February, is now listed as a junior on the Washington roster.

"I walked in the gym today, and I thought, 'She's been quietly working not knowing if she can even play for us.' Think about that. That's great character, right? That's what we want to do this year, is we just wanna be in the gym giving all we got, not knowing what we're going to get back. On the floor on game day, you don't ever know. But that is character, right? And we didn't know. I'm so proud for you, congratulations," head coach Tina Langley told her team and Toman after the announcement.
Toman played two seasons in the Hungary-A Division of the EuroLeague with DVTK-Hun-Therm Miskolc, averaging 8.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 30 games in 2025-26 while shooting 38.3 percent from three and adding 1.4 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. She was also named to the U20 EuroBasket Division B All-Star Five after averaging 11.3 points and 6.3 rebounds for Hungary's junior national team across four games last summer.
At 6-foot-2, Toman is tied for the fourth-tallest player on Washington's team despite being listed as a guard. Only forwards Tilda Trygger (6-foot-6), Brynn McGaughy, Kaelyn Carroll, and Daniella McLean (all 6-foot-3) are taller, with forward Nina Cain and guard Macey Huard also listed at 6-foot-2. That's a stark change from last year's team, which largely lacked size outside of McGaughy and 6-foot-5 center Yulia Grabovskaia. With 5-foot-7 Sayvia Sellers and 5-foot-8 Brooke Carlson both expected to start in the backcourt, that additional size will be crucial for Washington to hang with the higher-end teams on their schedule and not have to rely on guard Avery Howell as a rebounder as much.
Washington has a fierce fight for playing time in the backcourt, with Sellers and Howell expected to play at an all-conference level, plus Carlson, Toman, Huard, third-year Devin Coppinger, and first-year Amayah Garcia behind them. How that rotation shakes out and performs will likely be a huge indication of how successful Langley's squad can be as they enter their most-anticipated season since the 2016-17 team.
