We’re no strangers to a cozy fall manicure trend, as toasted espresso shades and expensive-looking burgundy hues re-enter our nail rotation. What can be tricky, however, is embracing the warmth of the season with a more delicate approach, making the October manicure refresh a nightmare for minimalists and fans of soft nail polish shades. Enter Olivia Colman’s “salted caramel apple” wicker-inspired manicure. A high-shine, shimmery take on the brown nail trend, complete with the warmth and texture of a glossy caramel apple.
Celebrity manicurist Robbie Tomkins created the look for last night’s Wicker screening during the 70th BFI London Film Festival at BFI Southbank, and a closer look reveals its resemblance to the film’s signature rattan themes.

Inspired by Alexander Skarsgård’s handwoven wicker suit by Wētā Workshop, Tomkins used Bio Sculpture Gel in Sunset Boulevard, applying it with a metal dotting tool to create a woven effect. He then layered a sheer jelly yellow shade, Bio Sculpture EVO Michelle, over the top, adding depth and dimension to the design. While the look is rooted in natural elements and inspired by the film’s craftsmanship, we’ll be leaning into the warm amber hues all season long.
While re-creating the look yourself is no small feat, there’s plenty of inspiration to be taken from the warm jelly gloss effect achieved. The best part? Salted caramel apple nails flatter everyone without making the bold statement of an opaque brown manicure.
“Olivia adores fun, creative nail art that shows off her amazing personality,” says Tomkins. “She’s usually filming roles that don’t call for it, so red carpets and premieres are our chance to do something beautiful and a little bit crazy. We have so much fun coming up with the ideas together. I always think about the tone of the film. Elsinore is heartfelt, so we kept the nails elegant and refined. Wicker is playful, so we went a bit off the wall.”
