KUALA LUMPUR: The Perikatan Nasional supreme council will convene soon following the stay of its deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), with Bersatu to be invited to the meeting too.
Despite the fallout with PAS, which chairs the coalition, PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said Bersatu remains a component party.
“(The High Court’s decision today) means that we can now hold meetings, and I would like to add that Bersatu will be invited since it is still a component party,” he said at a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur court complex here.
The High Court today granted a stay on the RoS's decision to deregister PN, with the stay to remain in effect until the coalition’s judicial review against the registrar is disposed of.
The RoS announced PN’s deregistration on Tuesday morning after finding that the coalition’s response to a show-cause notice failed to justify retaining its registration.
The show-cause notice was issued last month after Bersatu lodged a complaint with the RoS, claiming it was excluded from a key PN supreme council meeting on July 16, which raised questions about its membership in the coalition.
Ties between PAS and Bersatu deteriorated after the Islamic party ended its cooperation with Bersatu in June.
Takiyuddin said PN would contest in the Melaka polls under its own banner as it resumed its activities.
“PN is back,” Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, added.
Other leaders present for the court’s decision on the stay application included opposition leader and Wawasan president Hamzah Zainudin, Gerakan president Dominic Lau, MIPP president P Punithan, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir.
